My name~!!

In Korea, there are many kinds of names. Most Korean words have Chinese characters, so the sounds of some words are Korean, but the meanings are related to Chinese characters. For example, there are 'sea' words. In Korean, 'sea' is 'bada' or 'hae.' 'Bada' is a Korean word, but 'Hae' is a Chinese character, Koreans just pronounce it the Korean way. Most Korean names are decided according to Chinese characters.
My name is Yu Mi Lee. 'Yu' means existence, and 'Mi' means beauty, so my name means 'Beautiful existence.' I like my name. It has a meaning; also it is easy to pronounce; in America, I don't use an English name, because I like my name.

My toy~!!

I think that children are exposed to a lot of ads. When I was young,  I was influenced by television commercials. I really like toys, so whenever a toy was advertised, I concentrated on television ads. For example, there was a doll that could cry. It was very amazing. When I saw the commercials of the crying dolls, I pressed my parents to buy the doll.

Designer Babies

I think that I do not agree with genetically engineering a baby. It is not right. If people can choose or change their babies, that will cause serious problems. For example, if most people want to choose their baby's gender, the proportion of males to females will not be equal. In addition, most people hope that their babies are intelligent, so if people make their babies intelligent by using genetic engineering, widespread extreme intelligence will occur.

My interviews about death penalty.

Yesterday, I went to the campus library for an interview. While I was there, I met 2 people, and I asked them about the death penalty. The first person was a graduate school student whose major was piano. She said that the death penalty was necessary but the execution should be carefully done. She said if we used the death penalty, the murder rate would decrease. The second person was a freshman, and he was from the state of Ohio. He said that he didn't agree with the death penalty. Before executing a murderer, we should give them time to reflect on what they did. However, he said that the death penalty is not the best way to solve this problem.

Death Penalty

In my opinion, the death penalty is wrong because putting murderers to death is also murder. Also, murderers should be given a chance to reflect on their lives. If people take a human life, inevitably they have to be judged harshly. The death penalty is not a solution, so people should think carefully about it and abolish it.

Obesity article.

Here is an interesting article about the influence of fast food around the world. It explains the menus of fast food companies using McDonald's as an example. Nowadays, many obese people claim fast food caused their obesity, and have tried to sue unsuccessfully. However, McDonald's phased out theis 'super-sized'menu and started offering healthier food such as salads. I enjoyed this article because I learned a lot about obesity.

Here's a Korean folktale.

A brother and a sister became the moon and the sun.
M : Mother
B : Brother
S : Sister
T : Tiger

A long time ago, there lived a mother and her two children. One day the mother went to work.
M : Mommy will go to work.
B : Bye mom.

The mother was coming back home. She did not know that a tiger was following her.
There, the tiger appeared! So, he ate the mother.
T : Hello! You know, I’m very hungry. I will eat you.
M : Ah~~~~~~~~~~~~.

The tiger killed the mother, went to the house, and pretended to be the children’s mother.
T : Children, I’m home. Open the door.
S : Mommy.
B : Wait! It’s not her voice, we should check.

The children realized that it was a tiger so they ran away.
They climbed to top of the tree. The tiger kept searching.
B : That’s a tiger. Ouch, my eyes.
B : We must run away!
T : Where are they?

The tiger saw their shadow in the pond.
T : Huhuhu… there you are. How did you go up there?
S : How? Use the a~!!
B : Put oil on your foot.
T : Oh,yeah?? I’ll be right back kids~!!I can’t go up there. What’s wrong?

The girl thought the tiger was very funny so she told him how to climb.
The tiger started climbing.
S : Hahaha you fool! Use the ax!
T : Oh! That’s right. Thank you.
S : Oh I’m sorry. What should we do!
B : God! Please help. Give us rope if you want to save us.

The children prayed and the rope came down. They went up to the sky. When the tiger saw that the children were climbing the rope, he also prayed.
T : God! One more rope please! Hahaha…Thank you!

The tiger went up into the sky. But, actually the tiger’s rope was a frayed rope. The bad tiger fall to the ground and died.
Finally, the sister became the sun to light the day and the brother became the moon to light the dark, so they lived happily ever after.

A foreign language.

English has influenced my language Korean in many ways. First, English has influenced my language in high-tech. A long time ago, in my country, there was no high-tech. However, when my country suffered from the Korean war, other countries helped my country. After then my country started to trade with other countries. People were exposed to high-tech for the first time. At that time there were no words in Korea for television and radio, so Koreans borrowed those words. They still use them today.

My Global life.

This morning, I woke up early because I heard my clock radio. It was playing an Italian folk song. I called my mother who is in Korea. My cellphone is a 'SAMSUNG' which is a Korea brand. I went to school in a car which was made in by Japan. In the evening, my friend and I ate Korean food in my home; also, we watched television. We watched the US news. In addition, I did a messenger on the internet with my friend who live in Germany.
